Artwork/ Design requirements
Print-ready PDFs will be supplied via the online system. A minimum 3-5mm bleed is strongly recommended for Fridge magnets, as trimming may vary by 1-2mm. Please do not put borders around the edges, as these may shift when cutting. Also, it is highly recommended that you keep all essential designs about 3-4mm from the trim edge.
Fridge Magnets are a great way to provide information you want people to keep handy.
Use them to promote your company, your products, and your services. Because promotional Magnets provide helpful information, people are likely to stick them in convenient places, such as their fridge or memo board, allowing for constant interaction with your message.
There's also a market for magnets featuring creative content, inspirational messages, pleasing graphics, or fun designs.
Consider adding a QR code to your design to link directly to additional online information.
This can be a great way to provide more detail than you would want to cram onto your Magnets. Since a QR code can link to an online message, you can change the online message without the need to reprint the QR code. BPP can assist with creating your QR code.
Go large, get noticed.
Extra-large magnets that you can stick on vehicles, fuel tanks, cabinets, metal doors and other significant areas are a surefire way to get noticed. Moreover, it can be easier to convince people with prime locations to allow you to stick magnets to their stuff than to persuade them to affix stickers since magnets quickly come off with a simple pull and won’t leave any lasting residue. A professionally wrapped car advertising your business can be costly, but printing a large magnet to stick to car doors represents a minimal investment with the same branding effect.
Don’t forget to include an offer and a call to action.
For some companies, simply placing their brand name on marketing collateral is enough. Still, if you want your magnets to have actual promotional value, consider attaching an offer and a clear call to action. You might, for example, put a promo code on your magnets and offer customers 10 per cent off any order when that code is recited. The value for this is threefold: first, your customers will want to take advantage of a good deal; second, they’ll feel like VIP customers because you’re offering it to them; and finally, you can track your magnets return on investment because most customers who call (or visit your website or location) will take advantage of your offer.

Non-White Substrates
- Spot Colours developed for non-white substrates (e.g. Kraft or backside substrates) must be appropriately designed to manage the brand expectations, operational efficiency, and run-to-run consistency. All inks developed for this printing condition maintain a minimum amount of opaque additives to achieve your colour expectations and maintain printability requirements.
- Inks developed using the above method often affect the substrate's colour intent. If opacity requirements exceed the above specification to achieve the desired colour, the customer must consider printing white under the spot colour.
- Printing white ink requires different approaches depending on Flexo and offset. The sheet-fed offset requires UV curing, the web offset requires UV/EB curing, and the Flexo is wet-trapped. These approaches are location-dependent and have varying print capability requirements.
Proofing Expectations Proofs provided to BPP for colour must adhere to the below conditions:
- Spot Colours: BPP strongly suggests using a proofing RIP that leverages a spectral proofing engine and has a track record of providing a visual colour match for spot colours overprinting or interacting with other spot or process colours.
- Spot Colour Dot Area: BPP requires all dot gains associated with spot colours to be measured and adhere to linear SCTV (spot colour tone value). Please refer to ISO 20654 and/or the proofing vendor for details on achieving this specification.
